Tampa Bay’s Winner and Loser of the Week

Winner: Jonathan Pazmino Alvarez.

He’s the quick-thinking Hillsborough Sheriff’s Deputy who rescued two children in their father’s truck after another driver, Kevin Smith, took off with the vehicle. The children’s father alerted Alvarez that his kids were in the stolen truck. He pursued the truck and arrested Smith without incident.

Loser: All For Transportation.

The proposed 1% sales tax referendum to address Tampa’s chronic traffic congestion was jammed up by Hillsborough Circuit Court Judge Anne-Leigh Gaylord Moe. She ruled the ballot language ” misleads the public,” meaning voters won’t have a say on it next month. The Hillsborough County Commission appealed.
