Tampa Bay’s Winner and Loser of the Week

Winner: Tampa’s streetcar.

It hasn’t always been a smooth ride, but the city’s venerable streetcar celebrated its 20th anniversary. Criticized by some initially as a waste of money, the streetcar has developed quite a following. It has served more than 1.1 million riders this year.

Loser: Ken Welch.

The Tampa Bay Times took St. Petersburg’s Mayor to task over his work habits. The Times reported that since his inauguration on Jan. 6 and through Sept. 7, Welch  showed up in his office 34.3% of those days.  The Times checked the number of Times Welch swiped his City Hall key card.
