Winner: Kathy Castor. Assuming the new congressional maps aren’t overturned in court, her re-election to the U.S. House is all but assured. The maps move Castor’s district into heavily Democratic districts in St. Petersburg and Pinellas, along with her usual strongholds in Hillsborough.
Loser: Trees. As the Tampa Bay area population continues to grow, environmental activists are worried about what that means for the trees that are cut down to build more houses and roads.
“The planting and the planning for trees … needs to be an integrated part of development, development review, permitting,” Cathy Harrelson told ABC Action News.
