St. Pete City Council member Richie Floyd calls for ‘change in leadership’ at fire department

by The 100 Companies

Following reports of a hostile work environment and a lack of emphasis on diversity within leadership ranks, St. Petersburg City Council member Richie Floyd is calling for a “change in leadership” at St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Floyd’s request comes after a city survey showed responses accusing Fire Chief Jim Large of making sexist, racist and homophobic remarks.

Mayor Ken Welch said his administration “recommits” to a positive workplace culture, according to the Times.

Large has worked for the fire department for nearly 50 years. He was promoted to the department’s top post in 2006.
