St. Pete explores next steps for Manhattan Casino

by The 100 Companies

St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch and city officials are reevaluating the future of the Manhattan Casino in the Midtown area now that the lease with The Callaloo Group has expired.

The group re-opened a food hall inside the historic building in late 2021, but defaulted just three months later.

Welch said during a City Council meeting last month that “the restaurant business model” is ineffective. Now, he and others are looking for fresh ideas to provide “the most community impact,” Welch told the St. Pete Catalyst.

The building is closed until next June for renovations, giving time to evaluate options.
