Former prosecutor Berny Jacques will become the Republican nominee for state House District 59 after besting opponents lawyer Jennifer Wilson and Navy physician Dipak Dinanath Nadkarni Tuesday.
Jacques won with 51% of the vote, followed by Wilson, who collected 35%. Nadkarni came in third with 14% of the vote.
Now, the nominee will face Dawn Douglas in the November General Election. But the Republican will likely win the seat, as the district leans red.
The candidates are hoping to replace state Rep. Nick DiCeglie who vacated his seat to run for state Senate. HD 59 covers parts of Pinellas County.
