The University of Tennessee men’s basketball team won the SEC tournament on the court, and the city of Tampa was the winner off the court.
The Volunteers dispatched Texas A&M 65-50 Sunday in the championship game of the tournament at Amalie Arena.
But of more importance locally, SEC Commissioner Craig Sankey said Tampa was “absolutely great” as the host city.
This was the second time Tampa hosted this tournament, which moves to Nashville next year and will stay through at least 2030 and possibly longer.
“Perfect timing for us,” Sankey said Saturday. “It’s snowing in Nashville today, so there’s that.”
