St. Petersburg Mayor-elect Ken Welch will postpone a number of planned celebrations following his Jan. 6 inauguration, citing the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the area.
The community reception in Williams Park directly after Welch’s inauguration will be postponed, along with the Mayor and City Council Reception planned for Jan. 8 at the Dali Museum.
“We must continue to make the responsible choices that protect each other,” Welch said.
Pinellas County more than tripled its previous weekly caseload in the latest COVID-19 weekly report, confirming 1,949 new cases last week, a jump from 573 cases seen the week prior.
