Tampa Bay’s winner and loser of the week

by The 100 Companies

Winner: Wander Franco. Not every 20-year-old gets a guaranteed $183 million over the next 11 years. But, that’s what the Tampa Bay Rays gave to their budding superstar shortstop Franco – and, it could grow to $233 million.

It’s the largest contract in Major League Baseball history for a player with less than one year’s service time.

Loser: Tax Cheaters. The IRS’s Criminal Investigation Tampa Field Office uncovered $100 million in unpaid taxes during an investigation last year. The highest-profile case involved Sarasota lawyer Joseph Anile II, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a $72 million fraud scheme.
