Rick Kriseman will ‘take steps’ to establish equity officer

In a Facebook post Wednesday met with heated commentary, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman said he plans to “take steps” to establish a Chief Equity Officer position “in keeping with our commitments to building a fairer St. Pete.”

But, during the city’s municipal elections last Tuesday, voters disproved of amendments that would’ve created a Chief Equity Officer to lead the “equity action plan” and establish a funding source to pay for it.

That led to criticism of Kriseman’s post from residents. If the Mayor created a new position, a new administration could undo those steps if that was their will.
