The Suncoast Sierra Club is backing candidate Copley Gerdes for the District 1 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council.
The environmental group is supporting Gerdes, citing his interest in developing the city’s infrastructure sustainably.
“Gerdes wants to strengthen the relationships and resiliency of our communities by investing in our people and our infrastructure,” said Sierra Club spokesperson Dan Huber.
Gerdes, a financial planner, faces lobbyist Bobbie Shay Lee in the upcoming November General Election. Gerdes’ father, Charlie Gerdes, held the District 1 seat for eight years until forced out by term limits, succeeded by current mayoral candidate Robert Blackmon.
