The University of South Florida’s student newspaper, The Oracle, is backing former Pinellas County Commissioner Ken Welch in the St. Petersburg mayoral election on Nov. 2.
The newspaper described Welch as the “best choice between the two,” as Welch faces St. Pete City Council member Robert Blackmon.
“His dedication to education improvements, income equality and the historic sentiment of his win would benefit students in all aspects,” The Oracle wrote of Welch, who is a USF St. Pete alum.
The paper wrote of Blackmon, “Although impressive, his work to improve education and decrease rent prices is minimal compared to Welch’s efforts.”
