The Tampa Bay Rays have the best record in the American League and a four-game division lead as they head to Boston on Tuesday for a three-game series against their closest pursuers in the American League East.
They likely will be without relief pitcher DJ Johnson, who left Sunday’s game in Baltimore after hearing what Manager Kevin Cash described as “a crack” in his right shoulder.
Johnson returned to St. Petersburg for a medical examination.
Injuries have haunted the pitching staff. The Rays have 14 pitchers on the injured list, including ace Tyler Glasnow who is finished for the year.
