While Tampa Bay recovered from celebrating the Stanley Cup champion Lightning, the Rays put on an impressive show at baseball’s All-Star Game.
Catcher Mike Zunino homered in the American League’s 5-2 victory at Coors Field in Denver. Joey Wendle singled and had a solid night at third base, and last-minute addition Andrew Kittridge threw a perfect seventh inning.
Kevin Cash was the manager, a reward for winning the pennant last season. Rays coaches and support staff also made the trip.
“Pretty special for all the Rays, everybody that got in,” Cash said.
The Rays resume the season Friday in Atlanta.
