Lealman neighborhood successfully beats back developer

by The 100 Companies

Community activists in Lealman, a Pinellas County neighborhood next to St. Petersburg, successfully got county officials to cancel a controversial development that would have been the first mobile home park project in the county developed using taxpayer funds.

The county’s Board of Adjustment and Appeals voted 7-0 on June 2 to revoke all approvals and exceptions for the Contemporary Housing Alternatives of Florida project after developers withdrew the project amid mounting community pressure and a pending lawsuit.

The mobile home park would have lacked amenities, sidewalks, storm shelters, landscaping and other features typically required in the Lealman Community Redevelopment Area.
